An insurance adjuster told me that the number one reason for home insurance interior flooding claims are refrigerator ice-makers leaking for months or even years undetected behind the fridge.
There is a device called The Watchdog Water Alarm and it is sold on Amazon. It powered by a 9v battery and has sensors that detect water as low as 1/32 of an inch deep. It has a shrill alarm that will keep going for three days and only uses battery power when it is in alarm mode. I just bought several of them for our kitchen and bathroom sinks and toilets. I am confidant that we will never have an unnoticed interior water leak again.
